An ice cream truck struck a Crystal Lake man attempting to cross Route 14 in Crystal Lake Monday evening, police said.

The ice cream peddler truck was traveling east on Route 14 east of Linn Avenue when it struck Jose Mundo-Gonzalez, 42, who was not in a crosswalk, police said.

Mundo-Gonzalez was taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry with life-threatening injuries and later taken by helicopter to Rockford Memorial Hospital. He’s currently in critical but stable condition.

The driver of the truck, Kristina Stynoski, 28, of Wonder Lake, has not been charged in the crash, which remains under investigation by Crystal Lake police.

Traffic on Route 14 was rerouted for about two hours as police investigated and cleared debris from the roadway.
