Man shot outside Elgin hotel, police suspect gang ties

Police are investigating the suspected gang-related shooting of a man outside an Elgin hotel early Sunday morning.

According to Elgin police, officers were called to a hotel parking lot in the 500 block of Airport Road about 1:45 a.m. on a report of man struck by gunfire.

Officers located the victim at the hotel with what appeared to be nonlife threatening gunshot wounds, police said. The unidentified man was transported by Elgin Fire Department paramedics to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators from the police department’s Gang Crimes Unit responded to the scene to conduct interviews with witnesses and collect evidence, police said. Investigators believe the shooting is gang related and continue to investigate.
