Which president’s vacations cost more?

In a recent letter, Mr. O’Brien decries the number of days the “previous resident of the White House” used for vacation compared to the current resident. When viewed simplistically, that is appears to be true. However, it ignores the following:

Most of President Bush’s “vacations” were to his own ranch in Texas or family vacation homes in Maine.

Many of those “vacations” were working vacations.

President Obama likes to go to Hawaii on the taxpayer’s dime, costing us at least $20 million so far (that’s a lot of trips from D.C. to Texas).

President Obama’s wife likes to go on lavish vacations herself, such as a recent one to Spain. Her bill to the taxpayers is in the neighborhood of $10 million.

President Obama’s daughters are currently on vacation in the Bahamas. I wonder how much that is costing us.

Then there are the ski trips to Aspen and other trips to Martha’s Vineyard.

And lets not forget the fantasy golf outing with Tiger Woods that cost Florida law enforcement over $78,000.

So who pales compared to whom?
