Let’s not get burned a third time

“Once burned, twice careful.” So the saying goes. Actually, the United States has been twice burned (Iraq and Afghanistan), with virtually nothing to show for the money spent and the injuries and lives lost. Why does it look like we are heading for a certain third burn in Syria? All the same players are on the scene: Islamist factions, a nasty dictator and atrocities, but there’s no clear path to anything positive. I say let’s give this one a pass.
