Boomers can’t hold leads, lose to slammers 9-4

The West Division champion Schaumburg Boomers could not hold a pair of leads in a 9-4 defeat at the hands of the host Joliet Slammers. A big reason for that was the fact that Joliet’s Niko Vasquez hit for the cycle on Wednesday.

The Boomers (56-36) opened a 3-0 lead in the second, scoring a pair of runs on a two-out double from Michael Valadez. Keith Werman added an RBI single in the frame. Joliet responded with 3 runs in the third against Seth Webster, who lasted 5 innings in the defeat. Frank Pfister notched a two-out RBI single in the fifth to put the Boomers back in front, but Joliet posted 3 runs in the seventh and 3 in the ninth to seal the victory.
