Police: Glendale Heights dad took son to Mexico

Authorities say a Glendale Heights man may have taken his 2-year-old son and a 14-year-old girl to Mexico without the consent of the children’s parents.

Fernando Margarito, who doesn’t live with his 2-year-old son Fernando Margarito Jr., took the child Wednesday during an authorized visit. Police said it’s believed Margarito left the area with the intent of taking his son to Mexico without the consent of the child’s mother, who is the custodial parent.

Margarito also took his son’s 14-year-old aunt, Susana Rosales, without her parents’ consent.

Glendale Heights police said they were contacted early Friday morning after Margarito called his son’s mother and told her he had reached Mexico.

Investigators confirmed that Margarito’s white 2000 Chevrolet Astro Van crossed the border at 11:08 p.m. Thursday. It’s unknown who was inside the van at that time, police said.

Fernando Margarito Jr. is described as a male Hispanic with brown hair and brown eyes, standing 2 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 34 pounds. He was wearing a gray shirt with white and green stripes, gray shorts and Converse shoes.

Susana Rosales is described as a female Hispanic with brown hair and brown eyes, standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 114 pounds. She was wearing a white shirt with pink stripes, a blue skirt and pink sandals.

Glendale Heights police say they’re working with the Illinois State Police, U.S. Border Patrol, Mexican authorities and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office to locate Margarito and the missing children.
