The Village of Buffalo Grove honored retiring fire Lt. William “Kent” Brecht Wednesday morning with a walk out ceremony celebrating his 25 years with the department.
Village officials, including the town’s mayor and manager, fire and police personnel, and retirees all showed up for the event.
Brecht was presented with the flag that was flown Tuesday at Station 25, 505 W. Dundee Road.
“He’s a good guy,” said fire department spokesman John Gilleran, adding that for a number of years one of Brecht’s extra duties was testing fire department air packs and making sure face masks fit properly.
Retirement will give Brecht more time for one of his hobbies, flying. He’s certified as a pilot on several kinds of aircraft and working on his helicopter pilot license, Gilleran said.
“I’ve got a feeling he’s going to be spending a lot of time up in the wild blue yonder,” he said.
