The sheriff's office said Hart had ben in jail custody since July 31. A week earlier, court records indicate, Hart had failed to appear for a scheduled court date while she was out on bond.

Court records show that following a trial earlier this month, a jury on Aug. 13 found Hart guilty of aggravated battery, and she had been remanded to the county jail while awaiting an Oct. 3 sentencing hearing.

An investigation into the death remains ongoing, according to the sheriff's office.
