Gays, Olympics an artificial issue

"Reform: Obama against Winter Olympic boycott" in Aug. 8 newspaper. People, what are you thinking? Does every gay and lesbian have to now register at the Olympic Games as lesbians and gays?

Athletes will do their best to bring all the gold medals home regardless of their sexual orientation.

What is this artificial pushing for a matter that should not exist. Athletes from around the world go there to compete, to show how good they are, not to show their sexual orientation.

Was Vladimir Putin going to check each athlete's sexual orientation personally and exclude gays and lesbians? It is diverting attention from other more serious issues. What do the Olympics and lesbian and gays have to do with each other? Nothing. Let athletes play freely. Whatever their orientation, athletes will go there and perform their best, That is the goal of the Olympics.

None of the governments should impose any agenda to international sports. After all, there were many great gay and lesbian athletes in the past and no one lamented about it. Is there going to be a competition between gays and lesbians and other athletes at Olympic Games now? Are the international flags going to be raised higher for the gay and lesbian athletes now? Are the lesbian and gay athletes going to be honored more now? If I were a lesbian or a gay, I would be really outraged by such selective agenda being pushed on free spirited international athletes' competition.

Why is this issue so loud now, whose interest in it? Leave Olympics for the athletes and not politicians pushing agendas.
