Power outage in Streamwood

The Streamwood Fire Department reported a power outage that forced several businesses to close Thursday evening.

Firefighters said they were automatically dispatched to the area of Barrington Road and Buttitta Drive at around 6:30 p.m.

According to firefighters, a component of the electrical grid malfunctioned, causing enough power to go out that businesses could not use their computer systems, forcing the stores to shut their doors early.

Among the businesses affected were Walmart, Sam’s Club, Value City, Big Lots and Dollar Tree.

As of 8:30 p.m., electrical crews were still on the scene working.
