Blame Democrats for sequestration

In his Aug. 10 letter titled “Budget cutting is destroying the nation,” Tom Teune of Wheaton blames the Republican party for the spending cuts from sequestration. Perhaps it would be helpful for Mr. Teune to review the facts. The concept of sequestration came from a Democratic president. The law was enacted by a Democrat-controlled Congress. The law was signed by a Democratic president. The spending cuts took place because the “my way or the highway” Democratic leader of the Senate refused to work with the Republicans to reach a mutually agreeable solution. And let’s not forget the Democratic administration’s instructions to make the cuts as painful as possible.

Mr. Teune should direct his ire at the party that caused the spending cuts. That would be the Democratic Party.
