Response is needed to stem gun crime

Gun violence is an issue that will not be solved simply. The cultural change needed for people to accept some form of gun violence prevention is hard to understand and acknowledge. But we have to start somewhere.

Why wait until another massacre occurs and more lives are lost in senseless killings?

Universal background checks may be a first step and an easy way to start the dialogue needed for change.

Congressional leaders need to think about how to force gun violence prevention bills to the floor when they return from their recess in September. Background checks might keep criminals from getting weapons. Background checks could also stem strawman purchases and limit the guns being shipped from Indiana for easy purchase in Illinois.

It’s important to remember those that have lost their lives due to gun violence. The youth of Chicago is especially hard hit and what a great loss that is to our society.

We must start somewhere to stem this violence.
