Democrats, Independents start new political action group

Submitted by DIFF

Progressives in the Illinois 14th Congressional District recently formed a new organization. Now registered as a political action group named Democrats and Independents for the Fourteenth, the organization is working to coordinate efforts across the district.

It is reaching out to all Democrats and Independents as well as the 14th District Democratic organizations, precinct committee personnel and other organizations to build a districtwide grass-roots network that will work effectively to elect candidates to local, state and national offices who will support its goals.

Those goals include: protecting the social safety net of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; protecting unions; protecting women’s rights; creating well-paying jobs; supporting the Affordable Care Act; preserving voting rights; and protecting sexual orientation rights.

Its mission is to counter the influence of big business on elections and on elected officials. It will work to help people stand up for their own interests and take back control of the political process.

To learn more, attend the next general meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Willow Room of the Huntley Park District’s Cosman Center, 12015 Mill St., in Huntley. Find “DIFF14” on Facebook.
