Woman hit by Metra train in Elgin

A woman was taken to a hospital Tuesday morning after being hit by a Metra train near downtown Elgin, officials said.

The woman was struck at 7:50 a.m. just west of Elgin’s National Street station by a Metra train bound for Chicago, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

The train left Elgin’s Chicago Street station at 7:48 a.m. and was not going fast when the accident happened, Miller said.

The woman was conscious and was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. “I do not know her condition,” Miller said.

Hospital representatives declined to disclose any information about the woman’s condition.
