Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove awards scholarships

Jamie Hillner, a 2013 Buffalo Grove High School graduate, was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove at the club’s weekly lunch meeting at Lou Malnati’s Restaurant.

The scholarship will be used toward Hillner’s bachelor’s degree at Indiana University. Hillner will be pursuing a degree in public and nonprofit management and a minor in Spanish, as well as a possible second minor in management.

While at B.G.H.S., Hillner was a peer counselor and a member of the National Honors Society, the class board and the Illinois Student Task Force. She was also an Interact Club officer.

Interact Clubs are Rotary International’s service clubs for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.

Some of Hillner’s extracurricular activities included participation in the Relay For Life, the Daily Herald Leadership Team and the Elite Soccer Youth Leadership Program. A Stevenson High School graduate will also be awarded a Rotary scholarship by the club next month.
