Lake Geneva swim club competes at state meet

Lake Geneva Swim Club pulls from many areas outside of Lake Geneva, i.e., Woodstock & Richmond , IL. I'm hoping you can run an article on our fantastic results at the WI State Swim meet this past weekend.

Lake Geneva Swim Club finishes in 6th place in Division 2 of the USA WI State Championships!

Willy Pinnow of Elkhorn, Wis., and Ashley Stahmer of Woodstock, Ill., combined to score 113 of the 180 team points at this weekends 12 & Under USA WI State Championships.

Stahmer started the weekend off by taking the silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle on Friday night. This was the closest race of the weekend and Stahmer missed the state title by .03 seconds. Stahmer then went on to drop 10 seconds in her 400-meter freestyle to take 7th place.

Pinnow followed up on Saturday morning dropping 27.3 seconds in his 400-meter freestyle event to take the silver medal. His next events, the 100-meter backstroke and 100-meter freestyle, he finished in 4th and 10th place.

Each race earning points for Lake Geneva Swim Club.

Lauren O'Brien of Williams Bay, Wis., dropped time in her 50-meter butterfly to go from a seeding of 51 to 26th in the state. Stahmer finished up Saturday afternoon by taking 5th place in the 200-meter freestyle and 19th in the 100-meter butterfly.

Two relays also scored points, the 200-meter freestyle relay of Phoenix Horn and Kathleen Fitzgerald (both from Burlington), Stahmer, and Paige Murphy (Elkhorn) , finished in 7th place, while the team of Murphy, Emma Coltman (Lake Geneva), Horn and Stahmer took 13th place in the 400-meter medley relay.

On Sunday, Pinnow scored in 2 of 3 events. He took 5th place in the 200 IM, just missed in the 50 Free with 17th place and moved up to take 10th place in the 50-meter backstroke. Stahmer finished the day with another silver medal, this one in the 100-meter freestyle. The relay team of Murphy, Coltman, Horn and Stahmer took 8th place in the 200-meter medley relay.

This Thursday, Aug. 1, Ashley Stahmer will be competing at the 14 & Under Central Zones meet in Topeka, Kansas, as a member of Team Wisconsin. Central Zones is made up of top USA Swimming swimmers who obtain a Triple A qualifying time or faster in the central United States. Stahmer will be swimming the 50 and 100 Free. Also on Thursday the Lake Geneva Swim Club 13 and Over State Team will start its state championship meet.
