Ela Township Electricity Aggregation Program

Township of Ela residents and small business owners will soon have a chance to weigh in on the Township's Electricity Aggregation Program. Public meetings to obtain input into the Aggregation Plan will be held August 8, 2013 at 7:00 PM and August 26, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Ela Township Community Center, 380 Surryse Rd, Lake Zurich, IL 60047.

Residents voted on a referendum question on the April 9, 2013 ballot that authorizes the Township to pool – or aggregate – residential and small commercial electricity accounts and negotiate a lower price for electricity supply. The Township will use a competitive solicitation process to select a supplier from the thirty Alternative Retail Electric Suppliers that are certified by the Illinois Commerce Commission and registered to serve residential and commercial electricity accounts. No matter which supplier is chosen, Commonwealth Edison will continue to deliver the same services it does today: delivering electricity, responding to outages, issuing monthly bills, reading meters, and maintaining the distribution network.

“This is the time for Township residents to learn about and discuss the advantages of electricity aggregation,” said Lucy A. Prouty, Ela Township Supervisor. Supervisor Prouty stated that results from over 600 other Illinois communities that have used Electricity Aggregation can reduce utility costs while maintaining ComEd services. “This program can provide immediate benefits for Township residents and businesses by reducing monthly electricity bills. ComEd will continue to maintain the wires, read the meters, receive monthly payments, and ensure system safety and integrity.”
