Steel Beam Theatre to present Sam Shepherd one-act play

Steel Beam Theatre, 111 W. Main St. in St. Charles, will present Sam Shepard’s one-act play, “Icarus’s Mother” for one weekend only as a special event.

The play is about a picnic, so the audience will “picnic” on food donated by Noodles and Company in Geneva and The Spice House in Geneva, with complimentary beer and wine included. Food service begins at 7 p.m. with curtain at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13. Tickets for this special fundraising event are $45 per person and can be purchased online at www.SteelBeamTheatre.com or by phone at (630) 945 0052.

“Icarus’s Mother” is an intriguing short play by one of America’s most thought-provoking authors. Ann Keen of St. Charles directs a cast of mainly Chicago actors including Ali Helland, Rich Helland, Bryan Breau, Georgann Charuhas and Aaron Pepple. In the story, you meet five friends on a picnic who have just enjoyed a picnic barbecue and are waiting for the fireworks display. When a mysterious airplane continues to circle overhead, a series of mind games and word games ensue until the final memorable moment.

Steel Beam Theatre ended its 12th season June 2, and resumes its 13th season of six plays and musicals Sept. 13. Tickets for all shows are now on sale.
