Uncork Barrington back, with 48 new wines to sample

Now that the Fourth of July has come and gone, Barrington moves into its second Brat Tent season. First comes the grapes, and then the hops.

The ninth annual Uncork Barrington will be held 6-10 p.m. Friday, July 12 in the North Lot of the Barrington Metra Commuter Parking Lot.

Come to sample 48 quality wines from eight regions, hors d’oeuvres from 10 restaurants and caterers, take home a souvenir wineglass and listen to live music. Tickets are $10; guests must be 21.

Sponsored by the Barrington Village Association, the event allows the association to continue and expand its work, providing support for local charities and educational organizations. The association donated nearly all the profits from Uncork Barrington 2012 to the Barrington Area United Way Barrington Career Center, Barrington Area Council on Aging, the District 220 Educational Foundation, Care Place and many more.

Housed in a white tent pavilion, Uncork Barrington takes place amid beautiful plants and colorful decorations, with live music playing and the sun setting in the background. This year’s entertainment is Felix and Fingers.

At the gate, patrons may purchase tickets or claim tickets purchased in advance through this website. All guests will then be required to show proof that they are at least 21 years old, at which time they will receive a wristband.

Tickets are available online, in stores, or at the gate. In addition, Uncork Barrington will offer a $35 “designated driver” ticket this year, at the gate only.

Trained sommeliers guide guests through the wines, 48 in all. A select handful of wines featured at Uncork will be available for purchase by the glass. Likewise, some foods offered by the food sponsors will be available for purchase. Nonalcoholic beverages will also be available for purchase.

During and at the close of Uncork Barrington, Uncork guests may order bottles or cases of the featured wines at two designated locations in the venue, where wine experts will answer additional questions and coordinate orders. Guests ordering wines will be notified when their orders are ready to be picked up and paid for at Wine Discount Center, 311 E. Main St., Barrington.
