A motorist reported at 4:22 a.m. that a car hit a tree on the 16200 block of North Route 14 in Hartland Township, the coroner's office said.

The sheriff's office said Jackson was headed east on Route 14 when his 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier left the road, ran through a culvert and into a tree.

Jackson was unresponsive at the scene, then taken to Woodstock Centegra Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, the coroner's office said. Jackson appeared to have been wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not suspected in playing a role in the crash, the sheriff's office said.

No further details were available, the coroner's office said.
