Capannari Ice Cream wins wager with Boston area ice cream shop

Capannari Ice Cream, of Mount Prospect, has won a Stanley Cup wager with Pizzi Farm Ice Cream of Waltham, Mass., to commemorate the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins matchup in the NHL Stanley Cup Finals. Since the Blackhawks have won, so has Capannari’s.

Pizzi Farm staff will be sporting the Chicago Blackhawk’s T-shirts, and Rick Pizzi, the owner, has to wear a Chicago Blackhawk’s jersey at the National Ice Cream Retailers Association Convention. Pizzi will also have to post a picture of his entire staff on Facebook eating a Capannari Ice Cream special Stanley Cup Sundae.

“I can’t wait to see Rick Pizzi, ‘Mr. Boston,’ sporting a Blackhawks jersey,” said Katie Dix, owner of Capannari Ice Cream. “Every year, Rick shows up to the National Ice Cream Retailer’s Association convention in some form of Boston sports team apparel.”

Capannari’s has a special honorary Blackhawk Sundae to celebrate the team — malted butter fudge ice cream dredged in hot fudge, real whipped cream topped with an Oreo (puck) and pretzel rod (stick).

“Our dream would be to get the Stanley Cup and fill it with the ice cream. That bowl on top screams for ice cream,” states Katie Dolan Dix. “It would also send a nice message to Pizzi Farm that not only our we the hockey town, but also the ice cream town.”

Capannari Ice Cream is in the historical Old General Store at 10 S. Pine St., in Mount Prospect. For information, call the store at (847) 392-2277 or visit www.capannaris.com.
