Streamwood teen charged with sexual assault

Streamwood police have charged a 16-year-old boy with sexually assaulting a 3-year-old.

Alejandro Hurtandro, who is being charged as an adult, appeared in Rolling Meadows bond court Thursday, where Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie ordered him held on $500,000 bond.

Assistant State’s Attorney Katherine Levine said the 3-year-old was assaulted at a Streamwood home where Hurtandro, who is in the U.S. from Mexico to attend school, had been staying.

The toddler told his mother about the assault on June 13, prosecutors said. The mother took the boy to St. Alexius Medical Center, where doctors confirmed an assault, Levine said.

Prosecutors said Hurtandro had been in the country for less than a year and that he planned to return to Mexico to visit his parents this summer.

If convicted, Hurtandro faces six to 30 years in prison. He next appears in court on July 11.
