BOSTON — Patrick Kane and Bruins winger Tyler Seguin were teammates when the season started and they both played for EHC Biel in Switzerland during the lockout.
Now one of them is going to win his second Stanley Cup.
"We became pretty good friends right away," Kane said Monday. "We went to a team where maybe half the team speaks English. We sat next to each other in the locker room. We lived in the same apartment building. We really had no choice but to get close. He was there a little bit before I was, so he showed me around."
Seguin had a big Game 2 with an assist on Daniel Paille's game-winning goal in overtime. Overall in the playoffs, Seguin had 1 goal and 5 assists going into Game 3 on Monday.
"Playing with him, he's a great player," Kane said. "It's always fun to play with players like that. His speed, his skill, his shot — he's got some good things ahead of him in the future.
"We both would say we had some fun together. I really enjoyed playing with him. We haven't talked too much lately, but this series when it ends I'll probably talk to him."
Sequin has spent most of the postseason on the third line, but in Game 2 he was thrown together with Chris Kelly and Paille and the line responded with both Bruins goals in the 2-1 win.
"You've seen him grow huge as a player," Paille said. "It's a bit frustrating for him right now that he hasn't scored like he has, but we're not too worried about him. We know that he's a special player and we know that he can find it. It's just a matter of time."
