Huntley woman, two children injured in crash
A 28-year-old Huntley woman and two juvenile passengers were listed in stable condition recovering from injuries suffered Friday in a single-vehicle rollover crash near Union.
McHenry County Sheriff’s police said Mary C. Quinones was driving a 2001 Ford Focus westbound in the 16800 block of Marengo Road about 8:15 a.m. Friday when the vehicle left the north side of the roadway, struck a concrete culvert and overturned.
Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Huntley, Union, and Marengo fire protection districts responded, along with a REACT medical helicopter, which transported Quinones to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford
A 6-year-old girl and 7-year-old girl riding in the vehicle were transported by ambulance to St. Anthony, officials said.
Sheriff’s police said front air bags deployed within the vehicle and Quinones was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. It was undetermined if the juveniles were properly seatbelted, officials said.
Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a part in the crash, but driver distraction is suspected of playing a role, according to the sheriff’s department. The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit.
