Boomers zapped by ThunderBolts

CRESTWOOD, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers put the tying run on base in the sixth, but they were unable to rally from an 8-0 deficit and dropped a 9-5 decision to the Windy City ThunderBolts in the opener of a six-game road trip Tuesday night in Crestwood.

Windy City struck for 3 runs in the bottom of the first. Ryan Soares led off with homer, and the ThunderBolts added 2 more. They got 4 in the fourth and 1 in the fifth against starter and losing pitcher Mike Giovenco. The Boomers scored five times with two outs in the sixth on 2 hits. Sean Mahley cleared the bases with a 3-run double in the frame. Mahley, Chad Mozingo and Michael Valadez all had 2 hits.

The series continues at 6:05 p.m. today when Boomers left-hander Danny Jimenez (1-2, 4.66) starts against right-hander Travis Strong (0-3, 7.32).
