New Veterans Park to host flag ceremonies

Submitted by Sugar Grove Veterans Park Foundation

The Sugar Grove Veterans Park Foundation will be dedicating its first flagpole and raising the first flag at 8 a.m. Friday, June 14 at the new Veterans Park at 201 Main St., which used to be the old Sugar Grove Hotel property, just northwest of the railroad tracks.

The public is invited to attend this milestone and share in the excitement as another step is made toward the completion of a park to celebrate the service of the men and women of the armed forces.

Beginning at 6 p.m. that evening, the officers of the Sugar Grove American Legion Post 1271 will conduct the flag retirement ceremony in Veterans Park. Again the public is encouraged to attend and bring worn or tattered flag for a proper retirement. There is a flag drop box at village hall, 10 Municipal Drive, if you are unable to attend.

The Sugar Grove Veterans Park Foundation, a nonprofit organization, is devoted to the construction of a Veterans Park in the village with community involvement and the support of Sugar Grove American Legion Post 1271, its auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion.
