The Lake County coroner's office will give away smoke detectors at 9 a.m. Friday, June 7, at its office, 26 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Waukegan. The coroner's office is the satellite location for Safe Kids Illinois, which is dedicated to prevent injuries in children. Safe Kids Chicago provided the smoke detectors via Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Smoke detectors are available free to families with children who are experiencing financial hardship. Quantities are limited with one detector available per family.
