Thanks for support of veterans programs
Once again, the people of Lake County have shown their overwhelming support of our veterans and their families.
The 42 veteran service organizations in the county saw a resounding success in their fundraising efforts over the Memorial Day weekend. Funds raised by the VSO’s are used to support their recreational activities at the Lovell Federal Health Care Center and to support the efforts of the Veterans Assistance Commission in caring for the 900 at-risk veterans in Lake County.
In particular, funding by the commission is used to provide support for the homeless shelter and HUDVASH program at the Lovell FHCC and support for the transportation, dental and outreach program of the commission.
The VAC has changed its procedure for the issuance of supplemental food vouchers by its partnership with the COOL food pantry of Waukegan. This partnership will double the food and health care items for the veterans in need.
In addition, the VAC has entered into a partnership with several Lake County police agencies to ensure the success of our annual stand down.
Again, none of these programs would be successful without the generous support of the citizens of Lake County. Thank you.
Michael P. Peck, Superintendent
Veterans Assistance Commission of Lake County
