Trailer carrying hay bales hits overpass in Lake Zurich

Lake Zurich Police spent several hours cleaning up hay that scattered on Route-12 when a semitrailer hit an overpass on Wednesday afternoon.

No one was injured in the crash, said Cmdr. David Bradstreet, but one lane of Route-12 east of Ela Road was closed until about 5:30 p.m.

The semi carrying hay bales hit a freight train overpass around 3 p.m. creating a mess for drivers and responders who were still on the scene later in the afternoon, Bradstreet said.

Bradstreet said he didn't know exactly what caused the trailer, or the hay bales on top of it, to hit the overpass.
