Goespel Jazz Fest coming to Wheaton in June
Wheaton Park District will sponsor a new summer event, Gospel Jazz Fest, from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Memorial Park, 208 W. Union Ave., in downtown Wheaton.
“We’re highlighting an up-and-coming area of music with top talent in the genre. People are going to be amazed at the caliber of artists,” said Tracy Scott, founder of radio station WPJC-FM and co-organizer of the event.
The musical lineup features both national and local jazz artists, including:
Ÿ Saxophonist Greg Vail, a nominee for the 2010 American Smooth Jazz Artist of the Year.
Ÿ Chicago’s own, soulful voice, Robin Alexis.
Ÿ Tanya Egler and the Steven Lambert Quintet.
The outdoor festival will feature a wine-tasting experience, as well as a variety of food for purchase.
“Wheaton’s historic downtown and gospel music is such a happy marriage,” Scott said. “Joyous music in a relaxing atmosphere that lets people connect — this will be one of the best local events of the summer.”
General admission begins at 4 p.m. The concert begins 6 p.m.
This will be a private, ticketed event. Tickets for general admission will be $35 and are required for entry into Wheaton’s Memorial Park. Purchase tickets at www.wheatonparkdistrict.com/tickets or at Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 S. Blanchard Road, Wheaton.
