Protection needed in mass shootings

Regarding your editorial from April 22 (“Act wisely on concealed carry, but act”), restricting concealed carry in public places like schools, movie theaters and arenas will only give those intent on doing the greatest assault on the unprotected masses a road map to do the most harm. Look into the past and you’ll realize that the largest mass shootings and loss of life have occurred in the very places that you’ve deemed it unnecessary for “legal” concealed carry. All you’ll do by restricting concealed carry is allow the same type of violent crimes to continue and limit the right of citizens to protect themselves and others.

Instead, we should take this opportunity to strengthen our laws so that we can deter and severely punish those who use guns to commit violent crimes, and put the bad guys in jail instead of allowing our judges to suspend or reduce sentences that allow the criminals back on the street just days after they’ve committed their crimes.
