Seven held at gunpoint during robbery Saturday in Palatine

Authorities are searching for two men they said held seven people at gunpoint Saturday evening while robbing a business in Palatine.

According to Palatine police, officers responded at 6:15 p.m. to the Verizon Wireless store at 784 E. Dundee Road.

Management told them that two men entered the store and began asking about phones. During the conversation, one of the men displayed a handgun and ordered the three employees and four customers in the store to get on the ground, police said in a news release.

Another man ordered the manager to open the inventory room, then removed several cellphones, tablets and iPads, police said. The same man also ordered the manager to open the safe and took an unknown amount of cash, police said.

Both thieves then fled through the store’s rear door. Nobody was injured, police said.

The armed thief is described as a black man, 30 to 35 years old, 6 feet tall with a medium build. He wore a black-hooded sweatshirt, dark trousers and white gym shoes, police said.

The second robber is described as a black man, 30 to 35 years old, 5 foot 6 inches with a heavier build. He wore a dark sweatshirt and dark trousers.
