No injuries in Palatine condo fire
No one was injured in a fire Friday night that left three condominium units uninhabitable in Palatine, authorities said.
The Palatine Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire at a two-story, 24-unit condo building at 516 N. Wilke Road, according to a news release.
Firefighters from several area departments responded to the call at 8:21 p.m. and found heavy fire in a first-floor unit, extending to a second-floor apartment above it and into the attic.
Firefighters cut a ventilation hole in the roof to release heat, smoke and gases accumulating in the attic. They searched the smoke-filled building for trapped residents, forcing entry into several units, officials said.
Firefighters had to open holes into walls and ceilings of the units from which four occupants were displaced.
The fire was under control at 8:52 p.m. The common areas suffered some smoke and water damage, but total damage estimates were not available Saturday morning, officials said.
Fire departments assisting on the call included, Arlington Heights, Lake Zurich, Rolling Meadows, Mount Prospect, Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village, Buffalo Grove, Wood Dale, Hoffman Estates and Palatine Rural.
