Lisa Sheppard is named the 2013 Gurnee Days honoree

Lisa Sheppard has been named as the 2013 Gurnee Days honoree.

Sheppard worked about 16 years at the Gurnee Park District and is particularly known for her role as superintendent of recreation. She now works as the Glencoe Park District’s executive director.

Sheppard will be recognized at the Gurnee Days testimonial dinner Thursday, Aug. 8, which kicks off the annual festival. She also will lead the Gurnee Days Parade as grand marshal Sunday, Aug. 11.

Sheppard spent countless hours at her daughter, Taylor’s, academic and sporting events in Woodland Elementary School District 50 and Warren Township High School District 121.

While at the park district, Sheppard helped to grow and shape the village’s recreational opportunities.

Libby Baker, the park district’s board vice president, praised Sheppard.

“Lisa truly embodies the spirit of community and demonstrates the qualities of a Gurnee Days honoree and is very deserving of this honor,” Baker said.

“Her contributions to the village of Gurnee will have a lasting effect on present and future generations.”

Each year, Gurnee Days Corp. seeks nominations from the community for people who have made a meaningful contribution to make the area a better place to work and live. Previous honorees include former Mayor Richard Welton, retired Village Administrator James Hayner and Gurnee Elementary School District 56 board member James Blockinger and his wife, Johanna.
