It’s time to end pension perk
With a defined-benefits pension, Illinois teachers and government employees are recipients of a perk that has long-ago disappeared from the private sector, with few exceptions.
As nice as it is to have such a perk from your employer, when those paying for it cannot get it, it’s simply time to end this underfunded liability and call it over.
Besides that, this perk is not needed to attract people to whatever occupation they might aspire to. If they want the job, not having a pension should have no impact in today’s marketplace.
