Mount Prospect man charged with assaulting a child

A Cook County judge on Monday set bail at $700,000 for a 29-year-old Mount Prospect man who authorities say sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl.

Jorge Caporel faces two predatory criminal sexual assault charges for incidents prosecutors say occurred between February and April. Relatives became aware something was wrong when the girl began acting in an overtly sexual manner toward family members, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Maureen McGee.

The girl’s statements led police to Caporel, who has no criminal background, McGee said.

In a statement to police, the defendant said the girl initiated sexual contact, McGee said.

Judge Jill Cerone Marisie set Caporel’s bail at $350,000 for each charge.

“This is based on the seriousness of these charges, the defendant’s confession and his illegal status,” Marisie said.

She also ordered the defendant have no contact with the girl or with anyone under age 18.

Caporel next appears in court on June 6.
