Man charged with abusing Villa Park girl

A Joliet man faces charges of having inappropriate sexual contact with a 13-year-old Villa Park girl, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.

Joshua Scheun, 36, of the 4300 block of Timber Ridge Court, appeared in bond court over the weekend. Officials say he met the victim online in March, drove to Villa Park to meet face-to-face with her and then sexually abused her on several different occasions while in his vehicle.

Scheun is charged with six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, two counts of traveling to meet a minor and one count of solicitation to meet a child.The situation came to the attention of authorities after the girl told a school counselor, officials said.

“The allegations in this case should remind all of us to be vigilant when surfing the Internet,” said DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin, in a statement. “Sexual predators troll social networking websites looking for their next victim and it is our responsibility as parents to know what our children are doing on the Internet and to teach them what is and is not acceptable behavior.

Scheun next appears in court June 17.
