Batavia pastor to lead ‘Servant’ discussion at library

Submitted by Batavia Public Library

Batavia’s popular monthly noontime book program, Books Between Bites, completes its 2012-13 season by welcoming the Rev. David Newhouse on Thursday, May 16, to discuss James C. Hunter’s book “The Servant: A Simple Story About the True Essence of Leadership.” The monthly series is held at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave., from noon to 1 p.m.

“The Servant” is the story of an executive who, nearly losing it as a husband, father, and boss, reluctantly goes on a weeklong retreat and recovers essential qualities for living in relationship with others. In fact, the principles addressed in the retreat experience reveal the “true essence of leadership.”

Newhouse came to Batavia last fall to serve as senior pastor of Batavia United Methodist Church, continuing a ministry of 39 years. Works such as “The Servant,” he shares, provides significant inspiration for leadership roles in all aspects of community … the church, family living, and in relation to all organizations that contribute to our healthy lives.

The public is invited to attend this free program and reservations are not required. It is held in the large community room. Parking is available in the lot just south and adjacent to the library.

Attendees are invited to bring their lunch and eat as they enjoy the program and discussion. Lunch items, beverages and baked goods can be purchased at 10 South Coffee House, located just inside the library and adjacent to the meeting room. To pre-order for pickup just before the program, call (630) 406-8870.

The 2013-14 Books Between Bites season will be announced in August and start Sept. 19. For information about Books Between Bites, visit booksbetweenbites.com or call (630) 482-9157.
