Crystal Lake woman faces new animal cruelty charges

A Crystal Lake woman is again facing charges of cruel treatment of animals after being charged with neglecting at least four horses in her care.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office announced Jamie Koy, 39, of the 6100 block of Hillside Drive in Crystal Lake, was charged with four counts of animal cruelty on

Wednesday, authorities said.

The charges stem from an investigation that was initiated by McHenry County Animal Control Officers as part of her probation from previous neglect charges, authorities said. Animal Control officers said they discovered potential neglect and cruel treatment while inspecting the horses belonging to Koy earlier this week.

Animal Control removed eight horses belonging to Koy from the 6100 block of Hillside Drive in Crystal Lake. The animals will be evaluated, given medical attention and will be placed with the Hooved Animal Humane Society, authorities said.

Koy has been released from custody on $10,000 bond. She is due back in court on May 15.

Koy was placed on probation in 2011 after she was convicted of neglect and animal cruelty to five horses.

Last time, Koy was arrested in fall 2010 after authorities found 14 malnourished and poorly cared for horses at her horse stable in Crystal Lake.

Two of those horses were euthanized because of their poor condition.
