Girl attacked near Des Plaines, suspect at large
Authorities are hunting for a man who attacked a 12-year-old girl near Des Plaines Wednesday evening.
Cook County sheriff’s officials said the girl fought her attacker and escaped from a wooded area near Golf Road and Interstate 294.
Authorities said the girl was near a lake on the south side of the 9600 block of Golf Road at around 5:15 p.m. when she was attacked by a white male, described as 20- to 30-years-old, between 5 feet 8 inches tall and 5 feet 10 inches tall, 170 to 190 pounds, wearing an orange and brown hooded sweatshirt and black and white pants.
The girl told investigators the man grabbed her, put his hand over her mouth and tried to drag her into a nearby wooded area. The girl apparently bit her attacker, who released her and she escaped. She told investigators the man fled north from the area.
A search of the area by canine units and an aerial search by helicopter failed to locate the suspect. Authorities did recover white headphones the attacker was reportedly wearing.
