Affrunti was driving a white 1999 Mercedes 280 north on Gilmer when she crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a blue 2006 Honda Odyssey, Lake County sheriff's police said.

Additionally, the driver of a gray 2011 Buick Lacrosse that also was headed south swerved to avoid the collision and struck a tree.

Affrunti, who authorities said had been wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. An autopsy isn't planned.

The driver of the Honda also was taken to Condell, police said.
