City distributes Red Cross cleanup kits to residents hit by flooding
West Chicago, Illinois: April 26, 2013 - This week, the City of West Chicago assisted residents of the Town & Country Apartments who were affected by last week's flood. Volunteers from the West Chicago Emergency Services Disaster Agency and the Police Department distributed 19 cleanup kits to the first floor residents who received flood water in their apartments from last week's storm. The cleanup kits were provided by the American Red Cross and contained basic supplies to help them clean and disinfect their homes.
According to Jenny Gomes, Manager of the Town & Country Apartments, the residents really appreciated the assistance from the City and said it was "the community coming together at its best".
As part of the process to seek a Federal disaster declaration, the City submitted the required paperwork to DuPage County on Wednesday. Officials from the State and FEMA will be in DuPage County next Monday to conduct a Preliminary Damage Assessment based on the damage reports submitted by all the communities in the County. The Preliminary Damage Assessment is part of the first steps in the Federal disaster declaration process. Please visit the Protect DuPage website (http://www.dupageco.org/protectdupage/) for updates and an overview of the process.
