Sex offender gets 6 years for violating burglary probation
A 22-year-old Elgin man was sentenced to six years in prison for violating his probation for burglary and sex abuse cases from 2010.
Victor Ocampo, a sex offender, recently pleaded guilty to reduced charges of misdemeanor battery after being accused of attacking a woman in 2012 after she agreed to give him a ride home from a bar, according to court records.
The guilty plea got Ocampo, of the 300 block of Bent Street, released from the Kane County jail, and sent to Stateville prison instead.
Ocampo was arrested in June 2012 after an altercation with a 22-year-old woman. After Ocampo directed her to a dead-end street near Elgin, she realized something was wrong and told him to get out of the car, authorities said.
The two struggled, and the woman grabbed a utility knife and fought him, authorities said. Ocampo was accused of choking, punching and dragging her, according to court records.
The woman had minor injuries, and Ocampo had cuts on his face and went to St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin seeking treatment. Sheriff’s deputies found him, saw that his wounds matched the victim’s story and arrested him, authorities said.
Ocampo was due in court in mid-May and could have faced up to 15 years in prison for aggravated battery if found guilty. Instead, he pleaded guilty last week, records show.
Ocampo was charged in January 2010 with putting a gun to the head of a 15-year-old girl in Elgin and forcing her to have sex, according to court records.
Prosecutors dropped several felony charges against him in exchange for pleading guilty to a misdemeanor, paying a $710 fine, not having unsupervised contact with minors and registering as a sex offender for 10 years.
Ocampo also was on probation for a felony burglary from February 2010 at Bennigan’s, 495 Airport Road, Elgin, records show.
