Steel Beam to hold auditions for summer production

Submitted by Steel Beam Theatre

Steel Beam Theatre, 111 W. Main St. in downtown St. Charles, will hold auditions for the musical “Krazy Kamp” from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 13. or Tuesday, May 14.

For this summer production, children ages 8-17 are invited to audition for director Kim Maslo. Bring a photo (a school picture or snapshot is acceptable) to your audition. Beginners are welcome, but if you have theater experience, bring a resume or a list of your acting, singing, and dance experience.

Online preregistration is required to receive an audition appointment. Visit www.steelbeamtheatre.com and go to the audition page to submit the brief online registration form. Include any conflicts for the evenings of May 13-14 so they can schedule auditions accordingly.

If you are not able to attend the audition but are interested in consideration, put that in the notes section of the registration or contact Kim Maslo at (847) 287-8180 or kimmaslo@steelbeamtheatre.com before May 10 to reschedule or with any questions.

You will be notified via email by May 1 with your scheduled audition time. Auditions will be assigned in one-hour blocks of time. Prepare a monologue or memorize a cutting from a story, not to exceed one minute in length. Auditionees will be asked to sing a prepared song of their choosing a cappella (without accompaniment), not to exceed one minute in length.

Those who do not have material prepared will be given a familiar song and reading to perform at the audition. Auditionees will also be taught a short dance combination and may be asked to read from the script.

Callbacks, when necessary, will be Saturday, May 18, between 2:30-6:30 p.m. Let us know in the notes section of the registration if you are unable to attend callbacks.

Performances will run from July 18-28, with shows Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. Private summer camp and day care performances are Thursday and Friday, July 18-19, at 1 p.m., with possible extension shows July 25-26 (12-14 performances).

Cast members must be available for all performances. This is a tuition-based program ($295), which includes two free tickets, script, costume, and T-shirt.

Rehearsals will be scheduled after casting based, when possible, on actor availability. Actors will only be called during scenes in which they appear and will not be asked to attend all rehearsals for the full duration.

There will be an all-company meeting Monday, May 20, from 5:30-8 p.m. Rehearsals will be held 3-4 times per week June 1-July 17, primarily weekday evenings and some Saturdays. Tech rehearsals will be Sunday, July 14, to Wednesday, July 17. Again, not all cast members will be called to all rehearsals and scheduling conflicts will be accommodated when possible.

The production staff will create a schedule after reviewing availability and the cast will receive a scene-specific rehearsal schedule after casting.

They are also accepting applications for student interns (ages 13 and older) to learn and work on the technical side of the production. As an educational children’s theater, SBT also affords the opportunity for students to gain valuable experience as production, choreography, prop and costume assistants; lighting and sound technicians; and set designers, builders, and painters.

Contact Kim Maslo at (847) 287-8180 if you are interested in applying. Visit SteelBeamTheatre.com for a full listing of classes and future children’s theater shows, or call (630) 587-8521.
