One dead after Gurnee car crash

A Zion man died following a traffic accident in Gurnee, police said.

Junior J. Brewer, 82, suffered fatal injuries in the two-vehicle crash on Greenleaf Street at Oglesby Avenue.

Brewer was driving a 2003 Saturn station wagon south on Greenleaf about 2 p.m. Monday when he made a sharp left turn into the path of a 1998 Ford panel van, Gurnee police said.

The van also was headed south, police said. The van struck the Saturn on the driver’s side.

Brewer’s wife, Edna L. Ezell-Brewer, 80, was in the Saturn, too. Both were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Junior Brewer died at the hospital. His wife’s condition was not available.

The driver of the van was identified as Robert P. Denz Jr., 54, of Mundelein. He was ticketed for driving a vehicle without insurance.

Denz was treated at Condell for minor injuries and then released, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.
