Downers Grove police are investigating a suspicious incident in which an 8-year-old girl was approached by a male driver last weekend, authorities said Wednesday.

Police said the girl was riding her bike Sunday on the 4600 block of Sherwood Avenue when a gray truck pulled up. The driver rolled down his window and motioned for her to come over, police said.

"The girl then turned and rode her bike back to her residence," Sgt. Harry Andler said in a news release. "The male never spoke to the girl, and his intentions are unknown at this time."

Authorities said they were notified of the incident on Tuesday. They had no description of the driver but said he had a brown-and-white dog and a female passenger with red or orange hair.

The vehicle was described as a newer model truck with Chicago Bears license plate holders and Bears decals on the driver and passenger side windows. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (630) 434-5600 or 911.

"Everyone is asked to remind children to be aware of strangers and report any concerns immediately to police," Andler said in the release.
