West Aurora High symphony to perform at SuperState festival

Submitted by West Aurora Unit District 129

The West Aurora High School Wind Symphony has been invited to perform at the 2013 University of Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival.

The festival will take place May 3-4 in the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

“Receiving an invitation to the SuperState Concert Band Festival is the crowning achievement for concert bands in the state of Illinois. Only the finest concert bands are selected to participate at this exclusive event,” according to the festival sponsors, the University of Illinois Bands and School of Music.

West Aurora was one of only 12 bands invited to perform from Class AAA schools; largest student populations. The bands were selected by an adjudication panel via blind recordings.

“It is a huge honor to be invited, as spots are highly competitive,” said Rodney Schueller, West Aurora’s director of bands and director of concert ensembles.

“Now, work must begin in elevating the level of performance of our program. This is a great opportunity for us to represent our community, district, school, program and ensemble.”
