Fermilab facing $36 million in budget cuts

The Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia is preparing for a 9 percent budget cut.

The head of the Batavia research facility tells The (Aurora) Beacon-News that the reduction includes a previously planned $29 million cut, as well as another $7 million decrease in funding because of new automatic federal budget cuts.

Fermilab Director Pier Oddone said the particle physics research facility has been spending less money since the beginning of the fiscal year in preparation for the decrease in money. But researchers will still have to make additional adjustments because of the latest decline.
