Waukegan Harbor to get funding because of Hurricane Sandy

The ongoing project to make Waukegan Harbor deeper for ships will get an additional $990,000 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a pair of Illinois lawmakers announced Friday.

The money will be used to dredge the harbor and fix parts made more shallow as a result of Hurricane Sandy last year, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider announced in a news release.

The funding was awarded as part of the $821 million package approved for the Army Corps of Engineers to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy and to rebuild the areas impacted by the October storm.
