Registered sex offender sentenced for presence in school zone

A 29-year-old Buffalo Grove man pleaded guilty last week to violating a law that prohibits a convicted sex offender from being present in a school zone, court clerk records show.

In exchange for Gregory Gentles' guilty plea to the Class 4 felony, a Cook County judge sentenced him to 4½ years in prison, with credit for 185 days he has spent in custody since his arrest last fall, court records show. Additionally, the judge ordered Gentles to pay $1,145 in fines.

Court records show that Gentles was convicted in 2010 of exposing himself to two children, ages 11 and 12, as they walked home from a Buffalo Grove elementary school.
